【Oral Care】Fast Pain Reduction and Healing in Oral Ulcers with Oral Gel Therapy

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a common oral mucosal disorder characterized by painful ulcers that affect a large portion of the population. A recent study published in Applied Sciences (2025) evaluated the effectiveness of a newly developed topical oral gel formulation for managing minor RAS.

A total of 60 patients (mean age 34.91 ± 7.27 years; 38 females, 22 males) were enrolled and randomized into two groups: Group I (placebo) and Group II (active treatment). Participants were instructed to avoid any other home-based therapy. A blind operator provided online guidance, and clinical assessments together with thermographic evaluations were conducted at week 1 and week 2.

The results showed that patients in Group II experienced a significant reduction in pain scores at both week 1 and week 2 compared with the placebo group. The topical gel demonstrated clear benefits in alleviating symptoms and accelerating the healing process.

Conclusion: This randomized trial provides evidence that topical gel therapy is effective in reducing the signs and symptoms of minor RAS. The findings suggest that this formulation may play a valuable role in improving the clinical course of the disease and enhancing patient comfort.
